P482: Implementing OER in a general chemistry course for science majors
There is a wealth of Open Educational Resources (OER) available online. There is now a trend in higher education to design courses using these Open Educational Resources (OER) in both lecture and laboratory courses. The benefits to students and instructors include eliminating costly textbook and manual expenses as well as the flexibility and diversity of online resources. This talk will cover the guidelines for using OER resources, examples of resources currently available and a discussion of the success the chemistry department at Thomas Nelson Community College has had with their general chemistry course utilizing OER resources both in lab and lecture.
