The American Chemical Society has been a strong proponent of green chemistry for many years. There are many reasons for the growth of the green chemistry movement, not the least being the convictions among leaders of the global chemical enterprise that the design of products and chemical processes that might be described as “green” is a fundamental building block in efforts to create a sustainable economy. In this paper, the author will take advantage of his perspective as a member of the ACS Board of Directors to describe some of the efforts to bring green chemistry and sustainability education into the curriculum.
