Students at a primarily undergraduate institution perform laboratory experiments focused on physical measurements. Every experiment requires the synthesis of the compound(s) the students are studying. Experiments include understanding color theory via the visible spectrum measurements of metalloporphyrins, comparing magnetic susceptibility measurements from a balance versus NMR, comparing infrared CO stretches from a set of molybdenum carbonyl compounds, and using copper patination as a tool to understand ligand field theory.
