Since1970, ACS has provided guidelines to support excellence in two-year college programs. Last updated in 2009, the ACS Guidelines for Chemistry in Two-Year College Programs has provided a highly flexible model that addresses the challenges faced in a wide variety of two-year chemistry transfer, technology, and support programs. Starting in 2014, the Guidelines will be revised to address emerging trends in the higher education landscape. This presentation will address the role of the Guidelines in two-year college chemistry education, changes in the landscape over the past five years, and the process for keeping the Guidelines current. The relationship of the Guidelines with other ACS policies and guidelines will also be discussed, as well as the impact of the ACS Guidelines and Evaluation Procedures for Bachelor’s Degree Programs revision.
