Students often wonder how to study for an ACS final examination in organic chemistry. A committee of faculty from several institutions constructed a practice exam that was not secured. Toward the last third of a year-long course in organic chemistry, students could sit for this practice exam, and determine where they excelled and where they needed to fill-in knowledge gaps. This talk will look at aspects of this exam and how students could use the results to determine their knowledge of the subject and how to study for the final so that their mastery of the material expands.

A 300 MHz NMR instrument was installed at a PUI in urban Denver in October of 2013, through TUES grant (DUE 1245666). Since the instrument came on line, the organic teaching curriculum and the undergraduate research projects have taken a dramatic change. This talk will summarize the outcomes after 8 months of using the new instrument and the plans for curricular expansion across the entire chemistry program.
