Presentation boredom can be a significant barrier to academic communication. Often chemistry lectures are presented using traditional tools such as power point presentation in addition to chalkboard presentations. It often involves several slides with the endless bulleted items. Often times it is hard to captivate the student’s attention. The use of Prezi a web-based presentation and storytelling tool uses a single canvas instead of traditional slides. Images, text, videos and other presentation objects are used to create a non-linear presentation. Prezi presentation captivates the students attention by its zooming capabilities. In addition to Prezi Voice Thread another tool is also used to teach this course. Voice Thread is a free cloud-web based application that allows people to have asynchronous conversations, using images, documents, and videos. Voice Thread is a virtual seminar table that enables students to discuss assigned materials. Voice thread runs inside the browser and has a link on blackboard and no software is needed to install. This will make an interactive atmosphere and a better learning environment in the classroom. This presentation describes the improvement on student learning and performances using Prezi and Voice Thread compared to a traditional method of teaching.
