We developed a team-taught second-year science communication course that provides a nucleus linking pillars of effective communication: grammar &style, peer review, science literacy, and scientific content. The course format lets students concurrently increase their communication skills and scientific knowledge in their preferred discipline through the preparation of scholarly reports, posters, and presentations. From the ashes, an innovative, independently developed, introductory science communication book that guides students on conveying scientific information to academic and public audiences.
