This study investigated how students define chemistry as well as their views towards the discipline. Students in General Chemistry I and II, Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Biochemistry labs were interviewed using a semi-structured method. The interviews were transcribed and analyzed for emergent themes. This presentation will focus on such topics as the disconnect between my recruitment plan and how the participants for the study were actually selected, the data collection process, and the iterative cycles of data analysis. I will conclude with a reflection on the lessons learned from conducting this project and how various processes can been improved upon moving forward.
