P194: Semi-flipped general chemistry
In my ‘semi-flipped’ classroom at a small, rural branch campus, the students may need more help and guidance than a fully flipped classroom would allow. However, I do engage the students with extensive problem solving opportunities by keeping lecturing at a minimum where small group activities make up the bulk of the time in the classroom. In addition, the laboratory materials serve as additional problem solving time for students to engage with the material with me there to guide them. My strategies at engaging students and integrating laboratory exercises into the semi-flipped classroom will be presented along with the drawbacks of the flipped classroom approach with these students.
