P1016: 5 E + NGSS = doing science
Learners “doing science” is one of the goals of A Framework for K-12 Science Education (NRC, 2012). The NGSS are based on the Framework. These standards integrate three dimensions: core ideas, crosscutting concepts, and practices. The practices are behaviors that are common to scientists and engineers. Pratt (2013) stated that backwards design and the 5 E instructional models are useful in designing lessons that align with the NGSS. We put the pieces together to create a student-centered 5 E photosynthesis unit appropriate for high school learners. Come and join us! We will share our lesson plans and assessments, as well as lessons we learned along the way.
