Truckee Meadows Community College has partnered with the Washoe County School District since 1998 to form TMCC High School. Students apply from all over Washoe County to attend TMCC HS, and can earn from one year of college credit to an Associates degree depending on the time enrolled. Up until the last academic year, all dual enrollment science classes were fully integrated with the regular college population. With the addition of a sophomore class in the 2013-2014 academic year, special sections of dual enrollment classes in nutrition and environmental science were implemented for only the high school students. Beginning in the 2014-2015 academic year, sophomores in high school will also be adding a special section of a dual enrollment chemistry course. Successes and lessons from the special section science courses will be discussed in conjunction with the challenges in developing the high school sophomore dual enrollment chemistry course. Issues addressed will include math readiness of sophomore high school students, meeting both high school and college requirements within one course, and the progression of dual enrollments in science courses through TMCC HS.
