This work presents the development of a periodic table adjusted to the needs of secondary education (i.e. in the Catalan education system). The main considerations for the basis of its creation are discussed. In particular, this periodic table takes as its key objectives: the use of up-to-date information, i.e. the atomic masses published by IUPAC in 2013 and its uncertainties; the scaffolding of conceptual learning by separating the quantities that refer to the atoms from those that refer to the elementary substances; and the inclusion of data relevant to Secondary School students.

Despite the existence and availability of simulations and virtual laboratories for chemistry education, their presence in high school classes is in a minority. In order to ease its use, four new contextualized activities based the ChemColletive virtual laboratory are been created. The activities have been designed to contribute to learning the topics of the chemical reaction (“Identification of illegal substances” and “Determination and removal of water hardness”), thermochemistry (“Fungicide synthesis”) and organic chemistry (“Testing for unsaturation in foodstuff”) as they are taught in high schools. Furthermore, the second activity “Determination and removal of water hardness” has been brought to several high school classes and action logs from student problem solving have been collected. A qualitative analysis of the experience and some insights from the collected data will be provided.
