Mathematical ability is a major factor in the success of students in science courses. A survey of students’ success in math prerequisites and success in general chemistry at Suffolk County Community College (SCCC) Ammerman Campus was conducted for the 2013-2014 academic year. The data were analyzed to find correlations between student outcomes in general chemistry and success in or when and where math prerequisites were taken. The recommendation of emphasizing specific math topics in the prerequisite courses has been made based on the survey results.
