This presentation will discuss how one major research university has re-tooled their large enrollment general chemistry lab course to take advantage of available technology in order to increase face-to-face instruction time. Side benefits include a lessening of the teaching assistant work load, a standardization of pre-lab lectures to all sections, the creation of digital repositories of information for teaching assistant use such as grading rubrics, answer keys, lab preparation notes/ideas, and instant lab editability (insert or remove or change labs on the fly). Some of this was accomplished with an online interactive lab manual and some was accomplished with BlackBoard.
