Most organic chemistry textbooks are organized based on functional groups. Only a limited few are organized based on similarities on their mechanisms. In this talk we will discuss how beneficial it is for first year organic chemistry students to learn organic chemistry on mechanistic similarities rather than traditional functional group approach.
