Salisbury University has incorporated safety instruction / training throughout its undergraduate chemistry curriculum. Pre-lab assignments in General and Organic Chemistry require students to become familiar with safe working protocols and with hazards of chemicals in the laboratory experiments. A one credit sophomore Laboratory Safety Course is a requirement in the chemistry curriculum and is the centerpiece of our integrated safety program. The presentation will include the objectives, requirements, design, teaching tools, and evaluations of the course. Upper level laboratory courses require students to report safe laboratory procedures before performing labs and are graded on using safe laboratory practices. Undergraduate research students must complete a safety course provided by the chemical hygiene office of Salisbury University. Challenges and evaluation of the program will be addressed.
