Too often we are afraid to make mistakes. As faculty if we make a mistake we look incompetent. As students if we make a mistake we feel “stupid”. There are not a lot of times in life making a mistake such a tragic event. When a mistake leads to a tragic event, we as a group focuses on learning from the mistake with the intent to not repeat the mistake. Why can’t we as professors or students learn from our mistakes? Too often we link self-worth to being perfect or getting everything correct. “It is what it isÉ”, mistakes are a part of life. We need to embrace mistakes both by faculty and students as a learning experience.
