P613: Red alert: A guided inquiry lab about reaction rates
In this guided inquiry lab, students identify factors that affect chemical reaction rates, then design and conduct an experiment to test how one of the factors affects the rate of reaction between bleach and red food coloring. Students then connect their macroscopic observations to the particulate level using Collision Theory. This activity was developed as part of the Target Inquiry Program at Grand Valley State University where it was tested by high school chemistry teachers. Participants will gain access to other inquiry-based activities and will receive complete student and teacher guides for this activity.
