P614: My acid can beat up your acid: A guided inquiry activity on acid dissociation

Students often have difficulty visualizing the dissociation on a molecular level. Most laboratory activities rely on macroscopic observations and do not help students build accurate particulate level models of phenomena. A teacher-designed/tested guided inquiry experiment on addressing acid ionization on a particulate level will be presented and made available. The experiment, designed as part of Target Inquiry at Grand Valley State University, includes a comprehensive description of teacher facilitation notes as well as potential student responses. A description of the experiment, as well as student and teacher reflections will be discussed.
